The issue remains that no amount of military buildup in Iraq is going to create political cohesion amongst members of the government, and that is what is needed. You can bring in more men, more tanks, more guns, but until key policy and governmental structures are implemented and agreed upon, these measures will be nothing more than a heavier lid on a boiling pot.
Troop levels were far too low at the beginning of the war, most of the country was left without security, and the situation quickly deteriorated into chaos. We have been playing catch-up since the fall of Baghdad, and we continue to lose ground to the insurgency all the time.
The overall problem is not troop levels, not strategic errors...it is that the US was wrong to invade in the first place. A sovereign nation that had nothing to do with America's 9/11 was invaded under false pretenses, and hundreds of thousands of people lost their lives. It is for this reason, that the majority of people in Iraq HATE America and will not help in its continued occupation of Iraqi land.
This sticker is so right, though I believe the "cannot solve a problem with the same thinking" quote was originally said by Einstein.
